Not to be confused with Sinj or Sanj. Senj (Italian: Segna, Latin: Senia, German: Zengg) is an old town on the upper Adriatic coast in Croatia, in the foothills of the Mala Kapela and Velebit mountains. Senj has apparently been inhabited since prehistoric times. A settlement called Athyinites in today’s Senj was mentioned in Greek documents dated to 4th century BC.

Rovinj (Italian: Rovigno, Ancient Greek: Ρυγίνιον, Latin: Ruginium) is a city in Croatia situated on the north Adriatic Sea on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula. Following the fall of Venice in 1797 and the ensuing Napoleonic interlude, Rovigno became part of the Austrian Empire, during which time it went into decline.
